Letter from the CEO
Dear Friends,
Welcome, and thank you for attending Nathan Adelson Hospice’s 19th Annual Multicultural Conference and Luncheon. I am so happy to see so many of our community partners return this year.
The focus for this year’s event is Mental Health...Integrative Care at the End of Life. Our goal is to address what mental health looks like for a patient receiving end-of-life care, a family member who is caring for a loved one, or a clinician who is looking for the signs that a patient may be in a mental health crisis at the end of life.
I am pleased to have Carla M. Perissinotto, M.D., M.H.S., speak at this year’s Luncheon. Dr. Perissinottois is a Professor in the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and is board certified in internal medicine, geriatrics, and palliative medicine. Dr. Perissinotto has gained national and international recognition for her research on the effects of loneliness on the health of older adults. Her research and advocacy have focused on the integration of loneliness assessments in health care and the evaluation and implementation of community-based programs focused on ameliorating loneliness and isolation in adults. A special thank you to Jillian Racoosin for moderating our morning education session. Ms. Racoosin is the Deputy Director at The Foundation for Social Connection. The Foundation for Social Connection engages in education, increases public awareness, promotes innovative research, and spurs the development and implementation of evidence-based models that address social isolation/loneliness and social connection. In 2022 a valued member of the Nathan Adelson Hospice family retired from the organization after 30 years. Cassandra Cotton, who also continues to Co-Chair this event, was a driving force behind bringing important education to our community on issues as it related to end-of-life care. In Cassandra’s name, we have changed the name of our Diversity in Action Award to the Cassandra Cotton Diversity in Action Award . I am honored to present this special award to Cassandra this year.
For 45 years, Nathan Adelson Hospice has had the privilege of caring for over 84,000 patients and their families. It is because of the generous support that we have received from our community that we can fulfill our vision that no one ends the journey of life alone, afraid, or in pain.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our event co-chairs, Jeanne Jones and Cassandra Cotton, as well as the entire Multicultural Committee, for bringing us another fantastic educational experience.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
President and CEO
